Struma Motorway, Bulgaria

The Struma Motorway, connecting Bulgaria’s capital Sofia with the Greek border, is part of the Pan-European Corridor IV. Motorway construction started in 2011 and was divided into 5 sections: LOT-0 to LOT-4. TITAN Bulgaria was previously involved in the construction of LOT-2 and LOT-4 of the motorway and is currently supplying materials for LOT-3, the final section.

Begun in 2016, LOT-3 will connect the south-western towns of Blagoevgrad and Sandanski and will pass through the Kresna Gorge. The road uses a series of viaducts and tunnels, designed to interfere as little as possible with the environment.

This project falls under the EU’s Ten-T Priority Projects and is primarily financed by the EU.

The Struma motorway is of strategic importance to regional development, providing a direct route from Western and Central Europe through Bulgaria to the Aegean Sea.
