Electronic Recycling Day

On May 16, 2016, the Pennsuco cement factory employees were asked to drop off their unwanted personal electronic items or any obsolete office equipment. Recyclables included: computers, electronics, air conditioners, stereo equipment, hot water heaters, bicycles, lawn equipment, metal/steel, TVs, monitors, microwaves, satellite dishes, batteries, lawn chairs, tools, cellphones, Christmas lights, telephones, appliances, and lamps, among others. The event flyer was extended to local businesses as well. The main purpose was to recycle unwanted electronic equipment and tidy up our office at the same time. TITAN Florida was able to safely recycle 3,860 pounds of unwanted electronic equipment. According to the Senior IT Infrastructure Analyst, “The recycling program that has been instituted at TITAN USA by our environmental team shows a real commitment towards corporate social responsibility in our community as dictated by our values. Recycling saves money and reduces pollution. Recycling creates more jobs than landfilling or incineration. And a largely ignored but very important consideration: recycling reduces our need to dump our garbage in someone else’s backyard.”

Electronic recycling, known as e-cycling, has become very important since it conserves natural resources, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and protects our health and environment. The US EPA estimated that the recycling of one million computers prevents the release of greenhouse gases equivalent to the annual emissions of more than 18,000 cars.
